Just like many of our buildings at Emmanuel Children's Center, the school needs a lot of help. Our school provides education to over 400 children from the community this school year. It survived hurricane Matthew in 2010 and was repaired by missionaries over the years. Due the lack of funding, we have only been able to repair the bare minimum. With wear and tear over the years, our structural foundation and flooring has now become a safety issue, especially for our secondary students on the second floor. We have prioritized our urgent needs to help the school, please consider supporting this vital building.
SECOND STORY FLOORINGThis 40+ year old school building is surely showing its age throughout, but the second story floor is what has us praying for a miracle. This wooden floor that has been patched over and over again is really hanging by a thread. Due to the age of the material, the wear and tear and termites, there are many areas of this floor where one can see through the gaps and feel the bouncing of the wood planks. Unfortunately, in order to replace this flooring there will need to be structural work involving heavier duty supplies as the wood that we are currently able to find in Haiti is of pretty bad quality. We are truly praying for a miracle as over 400 children depend on this school to receive quality education.

CLASSROOM SEPARATIONSUnfortunately, our school did not pass the inspections for the 2023-2024 school year due to the lack of soundproofing in between classrooms. While this is one of the easier repairs to be done, lack of funding makes this repair seem like a burden as we continue to struggle to keep the doors of the school open. The truth is that it truly is very difficult for the students to hear anything in the classrooms as all the teachers are simultaneously in class. We trust that God will make a way for these much needed separations to be done.

STUDENT DESKSIt is hard to believe that some of the benches that are in our school are over 40 years old, you read that right! We are blessed to have a seating issue at the school as this means that there are many kids busy receiving an education. Over the years we have replaced a few broken benches here and there but the truth is that we are out of seating completely. Last year several of our students had to learn standing, which is definitely not the way we want our children to have to learn, especially after walking miles to get to school. Our prayer is that we will be able to provide the school with desks by the means of purchasing some in the States and shipping them or at the very least buy material to fabricate more in Haiti.

LIGHTSYet another need that burdens our heart is the lack of lighting throughout the school. Lights are nonexistent at the moment as there are just a few old light fixtures that are no longer working. We would love to one day be able to walk into the school and see that the children are not struggling to read in a dark classroom. To accomplish this project we would need to rewire the school and provide them with their own solar power. Due to the size of the school this project is quite doable and can be made very cost effective with your generous help and prayers.

WINDOWSAs you can see in the pictures, the school building is in dire need of windows. In the year 2021 we were forced to replace most windows on the second story. Next is the need to replace the remaining windows. New windows will provide much needed natural lighting to the classrooms while providing a sound barrier from the noisy nearby street. By replacing the windows we would also be providing jobs for local Haitians which would in turn be helping local families. Please donate below to help towards this great need.
