One of our biggest prayers at the orphanage is to be able to provide the children with food security in the most self-sustainable way possible. Due to the remote location of the orphanage, food supply is very limited. We are forced to purchase supplies from more developed towns that are hours away and then hire a trucker to bring the food to us. Due to the increased insecurity and instability of Haiti, finding resources and transportation has become harder and more expensive through the years.
The children are blessed to receive three meals a day under our care at Emmanuel Children's Home. Feeding 36 children is not cheap, but we believe in the importance of providing well balance and nutritious meals to aid in brain and growth development. To eat nutritious foods comes with a cost. We believe that by purchasing and breeding our own animals such as chickens, goats, pigs and cows we will always be able to provide the children with the protein they need at a fraction of the cost.
We have a variety of animals and quantities on our wishlist to choose from below. If you would like to make a general donation to support our farm animal initiative, you may do so through the donate button below.

GOATSIn 2021 we were blessed with two goats purchased by our dear friends in Costa Rica. That following year we welcomed two baby goats. Unfortunately, we have struggled to gain milk production from our goats. We hope with education and more resources the children will become more comfortable and knowledgeable to care for our goats, in return receiving liquid nutrients for the children to enjoy.
Goats in Haiti are a luxury, that many cannot afford. One goat costs $200 USD Goal: 5 Goats Purchased: 0 |
CHICKENSChickens have been apart of our Emmanuel family for many years, providing the children with eggs for baking, cooking and breakfast. It was in 2018, that our first chicken coop was built by a missionary. Over the years, we have imported chickens from various areas of Haiti, with hopes for the best chance of reproduction. Finally, in 2022 we got our baby chicks! Later that year conditions in Haiti deteriorated, where it became hard to find food for not only our children, let alone the chickens. As a result, we lost our supply of chickens.
Our goal is to fill up our chicken coop and get back on track with providing our children with the nutritional benefits of eggs. Locally, chickens are going for $25 each. Goal: 20 chickens Purchased: 0 |
COWSWhat a blessing it would be to hear that "Moo" sound around the Emmanuel property. To know that the children would get plenty of calcium and nutrients from the milk. To create job opportunities and income we could also learn to make our own cheese to sell at the local market.
Thanks to the help from a few supporters, we planted a large bag of grass seed last year. Our property is looking much greener, and is ready to feed some cows. You don't see many cows in the small town of Bombardopolis, mainly because they are so expensive. The going rate, depending on availability is $1000/per cow. Goal: 2 cows Purchased: 0 |
PIGSWe would love to see our small Emmanuel farm grow into something bigger and more diverse. A beneficial addition would be pigs, to rotate into the grazing pattern around the property.
Our children only receive meat on very special occasions, Easter and Christmas. As our pigs grow, they will provide an extra special meal for the children, full of protein. Teaching our children to care for a range of different types of animals will provide more opportunities for jobs when they are older. Our children love to learn and have grown to have an appreciation for the animals we have on our property. Going rate for a pig is $75 each. Goals: 10 pigs Purchased: 0 |
Support for Farm Animals
Our hopes for this upcoming year is to begin transforming the future of Emmanuel through self sustainability. One of the surest ways to make sure our kids are fed nutrient dense meals is to produce our own dairy and meats on property. We are always looking for ways to educate our children and give them experience that will hopefully one day make them successful. As our home is continually growing, in a country undergoing political and economic challenges, self sustainability is essential to giving the children the food they need to grow.
Can't decide on an animal to gift the children? We will gladly accept general donations that will be used towards supplies needed to care for the animals.
