In four short years, we have come so far in creating a comfortable, clean and safe environment for children and adults to receive dental care at Emmanuel Children's Center of Bombardopolis Haiti. The space that we have been using for dental, is inside our guest house where teams stay when they come. We have designated one area of the house to a dental clinic and have taken over one of the large closets for our supplies. While we have made do with the space provided to us over the years, our dream is to have a small 800 sq ft building designated as a dental clinic. Here we could have a proper sterilization space, protected x-ray area and a large space to use our three dental chair units all at once. Also by having a designated space for dental, we could be able to host volunteers and dental professionals from other areas of Haiti to come and provide services to the community for a small fee. Although we have many other needs at Emmanuel, we feel led to open this partnership opportunity to build a permanent dental clinic so we can open our doors to the community year around.
The cost to build a home or building in Haiti right now is record high. Due to inflation and lack of supplies available locally, our dental clinic is going to be a project that takes time and money. We pray for those that have a passion for dental health to help us spread the word about this big project. |
Take a trip down memory lane with us to see how God has provided us with the tools, equipment and electricity to continue on with our mission. Each year we have progressed little by little, with better equipment, more ergonomic chairs, and better lighting. We are so thankful for how far we have come and we look forward to hopefully having a dental clinic to show on our timeline for 2024.
2019
Stand up screenings and fluoride varnish in a dark room. Good thing she brought a head light! This was a preview of the many dental needs our children at Emmanuel had. |
2020
Zero gravity chairs and one portable dental unit for the dentist, that kept getting over heated. Hygienist used a cordless polisher and toothbrushes, the children spit in cups. |
2021
Ergonomics was more of a goal this year. We converted a table into a flat bed. We used a new portable unit and portable suction. We started using Dryshield to complete sealants. |
2022
Three adjustable dental chairs with working units. What a blessing to be able to work ergonomically with reliable equipment. Multiple clinicians working efficiently at the same time. |
2023
We are fully solar powered! Our portable chair units allow us to work outside for a breeze during the hot months. The kids love watching movies on the ipad! |
