For years we have been trying our best to plant and harvest our own potatoes, corn and vegetables. Each season we find ourselves tearing up the garden and starting over. Due to the harsh environment it has been very hard to maintain. To be able to provide for the children long term we are thinking of new ways to produce more and consistently.
A goal of ours is to build a green house and install a proper irrigation system to ensure our efforts that go into preparing the land and planting the seeds will bare fruit. As of 2020 we have 24/7 access to water on our property through our pump. Building an irrigation system will be one of our easier projects, but unfortunately due to so many other needs, we have not been able to get it done. Our hopes for 2023-2024 is to have an abundance of nutrients for our children, with some left over to sell at the local market. |

In order to protect and grow our own crops in the most efficient way, we are hoping to be able to build a greenhouse. Plagues, harsh weather, beaming sun, arid land, wild animals and rodents are just some of the challenges we face with our gardens. A greenhouse structure would provide a protected place for optimal plant growth by helping with distribution of light, temperature while keeping all pests away.

As we are now blessed with plenty of access to water at the orphanage, our next project in order to provide the gardens with the best possible conditions to grow is an irrigation system. This system would help maintain the gardens with consistent watering. The soil in Bombardopolis is very dry and we face yearly droughts making it hard to water the gardens as much as it is needs. For now we are using handheld DIY watering cans made out of plastic bottles.
